French mountains in winter atmosphere, an irresistible combination for me. Not only because my love for France and my love for mountains are combined. The whole experience of a winter sports holiday is what makes the picture complete. I love snowy mountains in general, in France or elsewhere. Coincidentally, I always spend my winter sports holidays in la douce France. Mountains in winter have something special. It doesn’t matter if it storms, if it snows, if it’s foggy or if clear blue skies are awaiting you, snowy mountains are always surprisingly beautiful in winter!
This year, the destination was Les Portes du Soleil. This literally means The Doors to the Sun. This year, the sun was mostly hard to find but that could not spoil the fun. With no less than 650 slopes stretched across France and Switzerland, this is one of the largest ski areas in the world! A real treat!
Upon arrival very little of this winter atmosphere was noticeable but this changed rapidly. From day two, the snow was pouring from the sky and the sky decided to be generous from that moment. I gradually saw the landscape change into a real winter paradise. This year we took a recently purchased Go Pro camera with us which was eager to be tested!
In this photo report I share my most beautiful pictures of the tempting snowcaped mountains of Les Portes du Soleil and I tell you what winter sports means to me.
Who says snow, says little visibility. Skiing without even seeing a meter in front of you is also part of the deal!
Sunbathing? Out of question. In the background lies the ski resort of Avoriaz which seems to have vanished. Where is the sun?
On the lift and on the slopes while enjoying winter precipitation and wrapped from head to toe. You won’t feel any cold, believe me!
A glimpse of hope when the fog dissolves to give way to a bright sunshine ..
There they are, the long-awaited clear blue skies and glistening mountains!
An evening stroll in the snow (storm) Extra vitamines and stretching legs after a long day of skiing.
Our snowman, which is still quite visible, will be plunged into in an equally high layer of snow by the end of our vacation.
The magic of snow covered trees after days of snowfall. Isn’t this simply enchanting?
Enjoy the slopes in off season, all to yourself. What more do you want?
Landscapes whiter than white..
We unexpectedly encountered wildlife on the slopes.. 🙂
Enjoyed a coffee and a tea in a mountain restaurant next to a cozy fireplace where our clothes could dry.
Found shelter in our cozy refuge.
Relaxed in this cozy living room when it was cold, dark and stormy outside ..
and further enjoyed all the beauty and tasty food of the area 🙂
Are you also a winter sports addict or do you enjoy travelling to a cold country? What is your favorite “cold” destination?
